The Interior Designer must be sensitive to the unique needs of the client and possess the ability to create functionally beautiful spaces. These spaces are a blending of space, form and order, which are also the foundation of architecture design. This course addresses the complimentary disciplines of esthetic design and space manipulation with the technology needed to convey your ideas to the building trades.
If you enjoy design work and want to be part of a design team where your ideas and materials choices are incorporated as part of the architectural plan, then the Interior Architectural Design program is for you.
Program OverviewTwo years (six semesters) in length, the Interior Architectural Design program is for those wanting to work as a professional in this field; who wish not only to embellish space but to manipulate it, design it, and supply detailed construction drawings to the building trades and municipal governments.
Our integrated curriculum combines practical skills of drafting (hand and computer), space planning, and construction theory with colour, styles and materials use. The techniques of modern construction learned throughout the course are implemented into drawings and are enforced by the use of accurate computer simulations. Studies in perspective and architectural rendering help students to present their work in a professional manner.
In the first year students study residential design with an emphasis on kitchen and bath, as set out by the National Kitchen & Bath Association. During summer break, eligible students will be offered internships in the kitchen industry.
Occupational OpportunitiesInterior Architectural Designers conceptualize and produce aesthetic, functional and safe designs for interior spaces in residential, commercial, cultural, institutional and industrial buildings. They are employed in architectural firms, interior design firms, construction companies, hospitals, airlines, hotel and restaurant chains.
Specialized areas such as set design or manufacturers representatives also provide employment as well as retail establishments such as kitchen & bath, furnishings, carpet, cabinetry, decorative painting and drapery design. Graduates may also wish to work independently or as a consultant.
